Ronaldo's tax fraud case to be heard on July 31

Unsettled Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo’s woes deepened on Tuesday, when the Portuguese forward was summoned to appear in a Madrid court on July 31 to answer to four counts of tax evasion of 14.7 million euros.

This latest scandal has left the four-time world player of the year’s future at the Barnabeu in doubt, as media reports say Ronaldo is unhappy that the Spanish giants did not back him as fully as he had hoped in his dispute with the taxman.

The 32-year-old is being linked to a return to Manchester United and other top clubs after angrily announcing last week that his “conscience is clear” and has reportedly instructed his agent Jorge Mendes to pull out all the stops to broker a move back to Old Trafford, according to Supersport.

Ronaldo has also complained on multiple occasions previously, about Real supporters, who have resorted at times to jeering and booing his performance on the pitch.

Mourinho in hot soup

At the same time, Spanish tax authorities are also targeting Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who was on Tuesday accused of evading 3.3 million euros in tax during his stay at Real Madrid.

According to an article published by UK’s The Sun, Mourinho fell out with Ronaldo while he was the Real boiss, as he believed he was one of the high-profile players who had turned against him. Both Ronaldo and Mourinho are represented by agent Mendes, who will act to act as a peacemaker.

The Sun also reports that United are worried he is just using them to get Madrid to give him a new and improved contract.

And the fact that boss Jose Mourinho did not have Ronaldo on his original list of transfer targets has played a part in the club being unsure of launching a bid, it further reports.
